Update Units and Upgrades still being offered

If you hold a TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and have not yet completed the 2018 required update units, we are still offering these (as well as a full upgrade to the TAE40116). Note that these update units need to be completed before the TAE40116 expires at the end of 2024.

Update units and upgrades to the TAE40116 run as an independent (self-paced) course. All coursework is completed in a teacher’s own time.

The coursework for TAEASS502 Design and Develop Assessment Tools comprises 16 Knowledge Questions and Practical Tasks (4 parts). We provide templates to support completion of Practical Tasks.

The TAEASS502 coursework takes teachers through the following stages:

  • Plan the assessment process

  • Develop 3 Assessment Tools (full units)

  • Trial and review (make improvements)

  • Reflect

Cost of enrolment in TAEASS502 is $340. The enrolment period is for 3 months. Enrol via TAE Ripponlea Enrol.

  • Run some trial testing of a learner to identify their LLN skills / needs

  • Compare learner skill levels to VET Units of Competency

Cost of enrolment in TAELLN411 is $340. The enrolment period is for 3 months. Enrol via TAE Ripponlea Enrol

If you hold an old TAE, you can upgrade to the TAE40116 OR to the new TAE40122.

The full upgrade to the TAE40116 for a candidate who holds a TAE40110 (with units TAELLN411 and TAEASS502) is very straightforward. It requires completion of a small amount of coursework for two units: TAEASS401: Plan assessment activities and processes and TAEASS403: Participate in assessment validation. The coursework comprises 14 Knowledge Questions and Practical Tasks (2 parts). We provide templates to support completion of Practical Tasks.

The coursework takes teachers through the following stages:

  • Plan for assessment

  • Develop two assessment tasks (only one task for two units)

  • Gather peer feedback and make improvements

  • Reflect

  • Participate in validation process for three units (lead validation for one of these)

Cost of enrolment in the two units (TAEAASS401 and TAEASS403) for upgrade to the TAE40116 is $580.

The enrolment period is for 3 months. Enrol via TAE Ripponlea Enrol

A copy of your TAE40110 certificate & transcript including / plus update units TAEASS502 / TAELLN411 MUST be provided to tae@ripponleainstitute.edu.au at the time of enrolment to ensure Credit Transfers can be made available.

The full upgrade to the new TAE40122 is more complex, as there are seven non-equivalent units and a brand new core unit. We will need to look at which older qualification you hold and which elective units sat within it in order to advise individuals. Cost of this upgrade is usually approximately $1890 depending on the number of units required.

Support is available for update units and upgrades throughout the period of enrolment, just as for teachers enrolling in the full course. These are run twice-weekly sessions (Mondays and Thursdays at the end of the school day) that teachers can drop in to as often as they like, and this helps to keep the momentum of study going and ensure that small questions are answered quickly. We also run once-monthly long support sessions on Saturdays, and once-monthly additional sessions in evenings.

Before enrolling, you will need a USI if you don’t already have one, which can be created at  https://www.usi.gov.au/students/get-a-usi
